Havana, December 10 (RHC)-- Cuba's Arley Calderon obtained an outstanding sixth place in the 61 kg division at the World Weightlifting Championships in Bogota 2022, Colombia.

The young weightlifter achieved lifts of 155 and 160 kg to place in the lead of that movement. Unfortunately, on his third attempt, he failed with 162 kg on the barbell, which, if he had achieved them, would have given him the fifth place.

Earlier, in the snatch, the Pinar del Río native finished in 19th place with only one valid exercise. He started his performance with a failure on 120 "kilos", a weight that he then dominated. Later he failed with 123 kg.

In the total, Arley finished in 11th place with 280 kg, in a competition involving 32 weightlifters.

China's Fabin Li led the category with marks of 137, 175 and 312 kg.

In the 56 kg, the other men's weight in competition, Thailand's Theerapong Silachai reigned with a 265 kg biathlon.

In the women's division, Thailand's Thanyathon Sukcharoen reigned in the 45 kg, China's Huihua Jiang in the 49 kg, the Philippines' Hidilyn Diaz in the 55 kg and Colombia's Yenny Fernanda Alvarez in the 59 kg.

For Cuba, Ariolvis Begué González (89 kg), Olfides Sáez Vera (89 kg) and Ayamey Damiana Medina Roca (81 kg) are still to compete.
