Maylin del Toro
Havana, May 10 (RHC) - Cuban judo experienced another day without medals this Wednesday at the World Judo Championships in Doha, Qatar, when Maylin del Toro (63 kg) fell in her first outing against Olympic and world champion Clarise Agbegnenou.
It was a great and very disputed fight that extended to Golden Rule (it lasted almost 6 minutes), in which the French won by ippon with a spectacular counterattack. In the end, the Frenchwoman, who returned to the tatamis after Tokyo-2020, after more than a year out for maternity leave, won the gold, her sixth in world championships.
On Tuesday, the two Cubans who competed in the world judo championship, Arnaes Odelín, in the 57 kilograms (kg), and Magdiel Estrada (73 kg), also lost.
More than 650 judoists from 99 countries are competing in the world championship, with Japan leading the medal standings.
