Havana, August 20 (PL) -- Spain won the title in the ninth edition of the Australia and New Zealand Women's World Cup 2023, with a 1-0 victory over England today.

Olga Carmona, in the 29th minute, scored the winning goal, with which the Iberians certified in gold letters their beastly performance in the championship.

This represented the first title in history for Spain, which in the process joined a short list of four other countries with at least one crown.

Sweden had beaten hosts Australia 2-0 yesterday to take third place in the tournament.

The United States, with four titles, is the most successful nation in these women's competitions, followed by Germany (2), Norway (1), Japan (1) and now Spain (1).

The next women's World Cup will be held in 2027, at a venue yet to be defined.
