Havana, September 21 (RHC).- Cuban Milaimys de la Caridad Marín achieved her qualification for Paris-2024 by obtaining the fifth place in the World Wrestling Championship held in Belgrade, Serbia.

In the dispute for the fifth place and the last ticket for the 76 kg for the next Olympic Games, the Cuban wrestler won by knockout over the Romanian Catalina Axente.

Marín achieved Cuba's best performance so far in the World Championship, with four victories and only two defeats, both against rivals with a better record.

Her victories came against Axente, Italy's Enrica Rinaldi (10-0), Ecuador's tough Genesis Rosangela Reasco (5-4) and Ukraine's Anastasiya Alpyeyeva (6-2).

In the semifinals, Filiberto Delgado's student had lost to Yuka Kagami, the eventual champion, and in the bronze medal match she was beaten 10-6 by American Adeline Gray, Olympic silver medalist and multiple world champion.

Havana-born Marín is one of the promises of Cuban sport for Paris-2024. In her file she has the title of Youth Olympic champion in Buenos Aires-2018 and world champion in the youth and U23 categories.

In the 76 kg division, Colombia's Tatiana Rentería gave Latin America its second medal at the Belgrade World Championships, taking one of the bronze medals with an 8-1 victory over Romania's Axente.

Puerto Rico's Sebastian Rivera had won silver in the men's 65 kg freestyle.Cuban wrestler is fifth in the world and qualifies for Paris-2024.
