Havana, October 20 (JIT) --Cuban Yoanki Mensía made his debut on Tuesday night with his new club, the Spanish Casademont Zaragoza.
The power forward completed 26 minutes on the court, wearing the number eight jersey, during the 91-87 victory over Italian side Happy Casa Brindisi in the Fiba Euro Cup 2023.
Mensía made three of six shots from the field, scoring six points with an efficiency of 50%. He also grabbed three rebounds.
This competition is considered one of the strongest in the so-called Old Continent. Its flexible regulations towards non-EU players favored his departure to the court.
This also indicates that after his debut under the orders of Porfirio Fisac, he could continue to appear in international competition.
However, it will be more complicated for him to see minutes in the ACB League, the main competition in Spain, due to the fact that the places for foreigners are covered in the club.
A similar situation was experienced by his compatriot Jasiel Rivero when he signed with San Pablo de Burgos, so he will probably not play in that competition until early 2024, unless a foreign player leaves unexpectedly.
The Spirituano qualifies as the third player from the Greater Antilles in a Reds lineup, after Javier Justiz and Howard Sant-Ross.
