Havana, January 28 (RHC) -- Cuban triple jumper Lázaro Martínez won the silver medal on Sunday at the L'Eure athletics meeting in the French city of Val-de-Reuil, located in the region of Haute-Normandie.

In the Jesse Owens indoor stadium, Martinez reached 16.81 meters to get the silver medal, only surpassed by the 2023 world champion, Hugues Zango, from Burkina Faso, who reached 17.15 meters.

The bronze medal went to Algeria's Yasser Triki (16.66), while Cristian Nápoles, also from Cuba, came in fourth place with a discreet 16.30.

This event marked the beginning of the winter athletic season for the grasshoppers of the largest island of the Caribbean.

In other events, Canada's Sarah Mitton won the shot put with 19.58 meters; Britain's Molly Caudery and Morgan Lake dominated the pole vault (4.83) and high jump (1.92), respectively; and Finland's Nooralotta Neziri won the 60-meter dash (8.06).

Likewise, Great Britain's Georgia Bell took gold in the 3,000 meters (8:42.16); Benin's Noélie Yarigo climbed to the throne in the 800; the Czech Jan Stefela reached the top in the high jump (2.23); and Spain's Asier Martínez reached the top prize in the 60-meter dash (7.49).
