Matanzas, January 31 (RHC) --The teams of Mexico and Matanzas defeated Venezuela and Estrellas of the Elite League, respectively, on Tuesday, in the closing of the round-robin match of the Cuban baseball All-Star Series.
In the first game of the day, the Aztecs defeated the South Americans (6-5). Meanwhile, in the closing game, the Cocodrilos Matanzas were superior to the luminaries (19-11), in a true batting festival.
After these results, Matanzas was at the top (2-1), with the same balance but with a better tie-breaking index than Estrellas and Mexicanos, who placed second and third respectively. The Venezuelans finished in fourth place (0-3).
This Wednesday, Estrellas will face Mexico in the semifinals of the competition at 2:30 pm. Meanwhile, Matanzas and Venezuela will face each other at 6:30 pm.
The winners will play for the tournament title next Thursday and the losers will play for the bronze medal on the same date.
FINAL OF THE DERBY:
This Tuesday also took place the final of the home run derby at the Victoria de Girón stadium in Matanzas.
In a fraternal competition between Cuban and Venezuelan hitters, which turned out to be a real party, the best part went to the South American José Tello, who hit nine home runs.
