Havana, January 31 (JIT) - Cuba's Leuris Pupo was one step away from the final of the 25-meter rapid fire pistol at the Cairo 2024 Shooting Sport World Cup in Egypt.

After finishing in third place on Monday, with 293 points in the first three heats, this Tuesday he totaled 289 (97, 98, 94) and was one point short of the mark with which he closed the access to the medal competition (582 for 583).

Undoubtedly, that last series condemned him in a competition in which he had shown regularity in order to reach or surpass the 584 units, a figure that usually allows him to pass to the finals.

The German Florian Peter (588), South Korea's Jong-Ho Song (585), Kazakhstan's Nikita Chiryukin (584), Ukraine's Maksym Horodynets (583), South Korea's Jaekyoon Lee (583) and Italy's Massimo Spinella (583) will be competing for the medals.

Pupo has a sure ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and with this race he starts his critical route to that goal.

This will be his seventh foray under the five rings, an area in which he has won the London 2012 crown and the silver medal in Tokyo 2020.
