Havana, April 1 (ACN).- Cuban archer Juan José Santiesteban finished in fourth place in the concluding date of the South American Archery Championship, held in Maricá, Brazil, where athletes from the Island competed as guests.
In the discussion of the bronze medal in recurve archery at 70 meters, Santiesteban lost with a score of 3-7 to Oscar Ticas, from El Salvador, so he could not climb the awards podium.
However, the Cuban had a meritorious performance in that event, which served as preparation for the continental tournament of that sport to be held in Medellin, Colombia, from April 9 to 14, which will distribute individual tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The gold medal went to Colombian Jorge Enriquez.
Last Wednesday, the three representatives of Cuba won the silver medal in the team competition after losing 0-6 to the strong Brazilian team; while in the previous duel, in one of the semifinals, they had beaten the Colombian team 5-1.
