Havana, April 4 (RHC) - Cuba's multi-award-winning judoka Idalys Ortiz will give 100 percent in pursuit of her fifth Olympic medal in Paris-2024, where she will end her brilliant career.

Speaking to Radio Habana Cuba (www.radiohc.cu), the 34-year-old judoka said that although she has not competed much in the current Olympic cycle, her preparation is going well, both physically and psychologically.                                                        

Despite the fact that the London-2012 champion will not be at the Varadero Open due to a technical decision, she is confident that the points she has earned in the last events and those she has to add in the Pan American (April in Brazil) and the World Championship (May in the United Arab Emirates) will allow her to enter the Olympic Games by ranking.

"I keep giving my best, it is already very difficult for me to get out of the Olympic qualification. I will go all out for my fifth Olympic medal and then I would like to experience other things, create a family that we don't have yet. Thinking about a sixth Games would be an excess," said the stellar Cuban judoka.

In addition to four Olympic medals - gold in London-2012, silver in Rio-2016 and Tokyo-2020, and bronze in Beijing-2008, Ortiz has eight medals in world championships, 15 in continental championships, 14 of them gold, and 5 gold in Pan American games.

So far in 2024, she has competed in five top-level tournaments, with outstanding performances at the Grand Prix of Austria (bronze) and the Grand Slam of Tbilisi (fifth).

Those performances catapulted her to 23rd place in the world ranking and left her "satisfied" ahead of Paris-2024.
