Havana, May 13 (ACN).- Cuba said goodbye to the Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam without a medal, when Idalys Ortiz lost in her second match in the preliminaries of the Judo Grand Slam, based in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.

According to the International Federation site www.ijf.org, the multi-Olympic (1-2-1) and world medalist (2-2-4) of the over 78 kilograms (kg) defeated in the first fight for Ippon the Kazakh Akerke Ramazanova, but later fell in the same way against the Russian Daria Vladimirova.

The other four Cubans registered in the contest, Jonathan Charon (60 kg), Orlando Polanco (66 kg), Idelannis Carbonell (52 kg) and Maylín del Toro (63 kg), lost in their first fights.

450 representatives - 235 men and 215 women - from 84 countries participate in the tournament, seeking points for the world ranking (RM) that defines the list for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, from July 26 to August 11.

The other two judokas from Cuba and best located in the classification zone for the Parisian multi-sport event, Iván Silva (90 kg) and Andy Granda (+100 kg), were not registered since they will compete directly in the World Championships in Abu Dhabi, Emirates United Arabs, from the 18th to the 20th.

The International Federation announces the ranking for the Olympic competition and the best placed by the largest of the Antilles is Granda, who appears in fourth place, followed by Silva, seventh, and Idalis and Maylín, twenty-first, all in the classification zone.

Further away are Polanco (39), Charón (42) and Adelannis (58), so they are more in need of good performances to continue adding as many points as possible in search of being included in the zone or getting the continental quota, a by nations and man or woman.

In relation to the latter, the greatest possibilities are in Polanco and Maylín, although the latter must be maintained or improved in the classification zone by the RM for the French capital.
