Triumphant debut of Cuban boxing in Thailand Pre-Olympic

Havana, May 24 (RHC) - Cuban boxing debuted with two victories in as many appearances at the Boxing Pre-Olympic in Bangkok, Thailand, the last opportunity to qualify for Paris-2024.

Jorge Cuéllar (71 kg) and Yakelín Stornell (66) contributed this Friday to the two triumphs of the Cuban boxers in the fight, by winning by unanimous vote of the judges (5-0) over their opponents.

Cuéllar beat the Ugandan Muzamiru Kakande, while Stornell, the only Cuban seeking to attend the fight under the five rings, beat the Romanian Crinuta Nicoleta.

A total of four Cubans compete in Thailand: in addition to Cuellar and Stornell, the world runner-up Erislandy Álvarez (63.5 kg) appears, who will debut on Sunday against the opponent of Noah Talalot, from American Samoa, and the also world silver medalist Fernando Arzola (+ 92 kg), which will clash that same day against the Mexican Javier Cruz.

Cuban boxing already has four Olympic places contributed by Julio César La Cruz (92 kg), Arlen López (80 kg), Saidel Horta (57 kg) and Alejandro Claro (51 kg), who highlight the 61st National Beach Boxing Tournament Girón that is disputed in Guantánamo.
