Havana, May 25 (JIT).- Three Cuban swimmers will debut this weekend in the Mare Nostrum Swimming Circuit 2024, in the first phase based in Canet, an important event that this time will have the status of an Olympic qualifier.

Andrea Becali, Laurent Estrada and Rodolfo Falcón Júnior will fight on this French stage and at the next stop in Barcelona, Spain, on May 29 and 30, to make marks that can be considered for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This Saturday, Becali from the capital will swim 200 meters freestyle, Estrada from Villa Clara will swim 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly, and Rodolfo from Havana will swim the 400 freestyle.

For Sunday, Andrea will "throw" in the 100 freestyle and Rodolfo in the 800 of the same style, while Laurent will do it in the 100 backstroke.

Coach Luisa María Mojarrieta told JIT that "Andrea will not swim the backstroke, because she does not feel well to do it and the truth is that her classification depends on the result in the 200 freestyle."

«For Laurent, the 200 backstroke is not an event of his technical preference, since he has always dedicated himself more to the speed area, that is, 50 and 100, but he must swim it for several reasons and one of them is the possibility of positioning himself in this style and requires validating a brand,” he explained.

She added that “she is a young athlete in progress since she came to our group and she still has great conditions to exploit, therefore, she will cover more events in this championship. "Laurent and Andrea are the undines we have for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026," she acknowledged.

Rodolfo, for his part, joined his colleagues, the teacher and the national commissioner Nelson García, who were traveling to Canet after completing a profitable training base in the city of Villeguif, thanks to the Cuba-aid program. France.

The triton had to finish the second semester of his university studies in Puerto Rico and compete in the athletic league between those centers, his most important sporting event.

«He will swim in Canet 400 and 800, and in Barcelona he will only do it in 1,500. Despite not being as we would like for the preparation stage, he is our best male exponent. "We decided that he should join the training with us and be able to face his individual objectives, if he is called to participate in the Olympic Games," he said.
