Havana, June 10 (ACN)- The Serbian men's team once again displaced the Cuban team from the Olympic qualification zone for Paris, by beating Canada 3-1, at the close of the second week of the Volleyball Nations League ( VNL), in the Canadian city of Ottawa.
After entering the qualifying zone by adding three victories and one defeat in the first week of the VNL, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Cubans left the zone momentarily in the second (1-3).
However, in Ottawa they beat France, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, 3-2.
The disciples of coach Jesús Cruz rested on Sunday and depended on the outcome of that day's match between the Serbians and the Canadians, but the latter could only win one set.
Now the Cubans have 250.64 points in the ranking, surpassed by the Serbians (251.55).
But both maintain a close fight for the last Olympic spot, so the results of the third week, from the 19th to the 23rd, will be decisive for both of them.
Cuba and Serbia will meet precisely on the first day, based in Liubljana, Slovenia, where they will also play with the host, Bulgaria and Poland, with matches on the 20th, 21st and 23rd.
The VNL program indicates that the quarterfinals will be from June 27 to 28, the semifinal, on the 29th, and the final, on the 30th, in Lodz, Poland.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, France, as host, as well as Germany, Brazil, Japan, the United States, Poland and Canada, already have their places secured.
