Vegueros de Pinar del Río
Pinar del Río, June 24 (PL) - With the victory of Vegueros de Pinar del Río over Alazanes de Granma and the defeat of Leñadores de Las Tunas against Cazadores de Artemisa, the quarterfinals of the 63rd National Baseball Series were defined.
The team from Pinar del Río won 10x5 against the Alazanes and in addition to confirming its leadership in the standings, won the 15 sub-series held in the tournament and was the only one with 50 hits in the season.
In the other game played on Monday, Las Tunas lost 2-0 to Artemisa, which left the Leñadores (42-28) in third place in the standings and rival Ciego de Avila (41-34) in the first round of the playoffs.
With Monday's results, the regular schedule closes without the need to develop the suspended duel between Las Tunas and La Isla, nor the pending clash between Vegueros and Alazanes, as they would have no impact on the order of the teams for the postseason.
The other quarterfinal match-ups will feature Pinar del Río (50-24) and Sancti Spíritus (40-35), Granma (47-27) against Matanzas (40-35) and Santiago de Cuba (42-33) against Industriales (41-34).
After the establishment of the crossings, the National Baseball Commission is expected to inform in the next few hours the post-season schedule.
