Santo Domingo, June 27 (PL) - The Cuban women's volleyball team lost three sets to zero against the Dominican Republic in the opening match of the Pan American Norceca Final Six Cup, which will continue today in this capital.
The so-called Queens of the Caribbean defeated the Cubans 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18 in the presence of a large crowd that gathered at the Ricardo Gioriver-Arias Volleyball Palace to support their compatriots.
The offensive attack of the winners was led by Brayelin Martinez with 13 points, followed by Alondra Tapia with 11 and Bethania de la Cruz with eight.
The Dominicans showed superiority in all three halves, as they had more experienced players on the court, while Cuba has a roster of very young athletes with great projection for the future.
The Dominican team will take this Thursday off and will return to the court tomorrow when they will face the Puerto Rican team.
The first match today will be between the teams of Canada and Mexico and at the end of the match Puerto Rico and Cuba will face each other.
The day before, the United States team defeated Mexico three sets to zero.
The Norceca Women's Final Six tournament started the day before and will last until next Sunday.
According to the organizers, the event is part of the qualification process for the Norceca Women's Pan American Cup 2025 and the Norceca Women's Continental Championship Pan American Cup Final Six 2025.
