Cuban delegation to Paris 2024

Havana, July 9, (RHC) - The Cuban delegations that will attend the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games received today the national flag from the hands of the First Secretary of the Party and President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

At the base of the monument to José Martí, in the Plaza de la Revolución, wrestler Mijaín López and paralympic athletes Omara Durand and Robiel Yankiel Sol had the privilege of holding the flag on behalf of their teammates, as part of a historic ceremony for the union of those who will attend both multisport events.

The symbolic moment was completed with the image of Idalys Ortiz receiving the flag from Otto Vaillant, Cuban ambassador to France, where the leader of the judo team will complete her preparation for the competition that begins on the 26th.

Reading the commitment on behalf of the members of the two delegations, Olympic champion, wrestler Luis Alberto Orta, ratified the will to be faithful to Fidel's legacy and to represent with gallantry the values of the people in which they have been formed and to be exponents of fair play.

There, wrestler Gabriel Rosillo and palaympic athlete Ulicer Aguilera, both world medalists, placed a wreath in homage to the José Martí.

Exponents of Greco-Roman wrestling, swimming, archery, athletics and weightlifting were part of the Olympic representation that will be in action in the City of Light until August 11.

The event was also an opportunity for President Díaz-Canel to present Omara and Mijaín with the Order of Sports Merit for their unquestionable contributions to sports in Cuba.

Glories such as the javelin champion in Moscow 1980, María Caridad Colón, and the first medalist under the five rings after the triumph of the Revolution, runner Enrique Figuerola, participated in the ceremony, which was also attended by the French ambassador to Cuba, Laurent Burin Des Roziers.

Christopher Simpson and his band Elevación performed a live version of the song Tiempo de Vencer, which will accompany each performance of the delegations as an inspirational anthem.
