Euro 2024 Champions
Berlin, Jul 14 (PL) Spain defeated England 2-1 today on the pitch of the Olympic Stadium in Berlin to lift the trophy of champion of Euro 2024, the most important football tournament of national teams in the old continent.
After a first half where the goals remained unbeaten, the Iberians had more possession and England's defence closed down like a bank vault, La Roja began to caress their fourth historic crown, third in this century.
A strike from Nico Williams off an assist from his best friend Lamine Yamal, who at 17 became the youngest ever to do so in a European final, gave the Spaniards a momentary lead in the 47th minute.
Cole Palmer, with a left-footed shot from outside the box, levelled matters in the 73rd minute, but fate was sealed and Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the 86th to give his side the win.
The gods of the sport were right to let Luis de la Fuente's mortals work their magic on the pitch, after being placed in the strongest group and pulling off the feat of beating several of the favourites along the way.
They simplified Modric's Croatia, reigning champions Italy, Kroos' hosts Germany and Mbappé's France, the world runners-up.
With this victory, Spain became the first European country to win four consecutive finals in major tournaments, after winning the 2008 and 2012 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup.
