Cuba's U12 Baseball Team

Havana, August 26 (JIT) - The Cuban team, under-12 category, defeated Aruba and Ecuador today and maintained its undefeated record in the 12th Pan American Baseball Tournament for Children, which has been played since August 22 in the Dominican Republic.

Vladimir Vargas' pupils won 10-0 in a game in which they left the Aruban team without a hit.

In the closing game, they beat the Ecuadorians 14-1 and thus reached five wins without defeats in the tournament.

The winning pitchers were Asnel Torres and Rider Pérez, according to Cuban journalist Enrique Portuondo, reporting from the venue of the event.

Our team has had an impeccable championship, as they had previously defeated Puerto Rico (8-0), Venezuela (13-8) and Colombia (4-1) with authority. They even gave the first of these teams a zero-hit, zero-run defeat.

This Tuesday will be a rest day for Cuba and on Wednesday the team will be in the medal discussion.

Five players from Granma are part of this 16-player team: Alfredo Despaigne Rivero, Rainer Delgado, Denis Miranda, Yeison Perez and Jose Martinez.
