Cuban under 23 volleyball team
Havana, September 2 (JIT) - The Cuban national team will travel to Mexico, host of the 7th Women's U-23 Volleyball Pan American Cup 2024 from next 3 to 8, at the international velodrome in Xalapa, Veracruz.
The Antillean women are in Group A along with Chile, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, which they will face in that order. The B group includes Nicaragua, Peru, Suriname and the local team.
Cuba signed up Lisania Grafort (Santiago de Cuba) and Yalain de la Peña (Havana) as opposites and Lianet García (Sancti Spíritus), Aejandra Gómez (Santiago de Cuba), Thainalien Leyva (Granma), Martha García (Pinar del Río) and captain Whitney James (Havana) as corner attackers.
Yensy de la Caridad Kindelán (Ciego de Avila) and Edisleidys Reyes (Camagüey) will play as middle blockers, Brenda Mía Nold Ferrer and Lisbeysis Hernández (both from Havana) as setters and Yamilena Ruiz (Holguín) as libero.
Technical director Leivis Garcia this time will be assisted by Wilfredo Robinson and Rolando Arredondo, and as head of delegation will travel Freddy Hernandez, volleyball commissioner in the province of Granma.
This cup is part of the qualifying system for the II Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025, in Paraguay, notified the North, Central American and Caribbean Confederation (Norceca).
Of the four places granted to Norceca, two will be awarded to the first and second place teams in the final classification among those belonging to that area.
The other two will be awarded to the teams with the best positions in the Norceca U-23 rankings that have not been granted a berth.
The South American confederation will establish its own classification system.
