Havana, Sep 7 (RHC) Cuban sprinter Omara Durand sealed Cuba's performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and her own sports career, by winning the 200 meters flat, category T12.
Durand and her guide Yuniol Kindelán clocked 23 seconds and 62 hundredths on the track of the Stade de France, to come in ahead of Venezuela's Alejandra Paola Pérez (24.19) and India's Sharma Simran (24.75).
The Antillean athlete thus reached three crowns in this competition, as she had already won the 100 and 400 meters in her class (for visually impaired athletes) and reached a total of 11 Paralympic medals, the highest medalist of her country.
Her record also includes 14 gold medals in World Championships and 12 in Parapan American Games, multi-sport events where she also leads her fellow countrymen in the total number of medals won.
With this title, Cuba closed its performance in Paris 2024 with 10 medals: six gold, three silver and one bronze, at the moment in 22nd place in the ranking by countries, since no athlete from the largest Antillean island will see action tomorrow (Source: Prensa Latina).
