Havana, Sep 12 (ACN) With changes in their lineups, Cuban teams will try today to maintain their unbeaten record at the Budapest Chess Olympiad 2024, which brings together in the Hungarian capital most of the best players in the world.

In the section without distinction of sex, or also called open, the Caribbean team will face South Africa and will depend on the national champion Luis Ernesto Quesada in the first table as Daniel Barrish's rival.

Dylan Berdayes, Elier Miranda and Omar Almeida will defend the next boards, in that order, and will have Jan Karsten, Caleb Levi Levitan and Banele Mhango as opponents.

In the first match, Carlos Daniel Albornoz led the Cuban team, which debuted with a 3.5-0.5-point success against the Sri Lankan team.

In the women's section, the Cubans started off with a 4-0 sweep over the Sudanese team and this Thursday they will once again come out as favorites to defeat the Malaysian team.

Oleiny Linares will debut as Liting Tan's opponent on the first table, while Yerisbel Miranda will face Puteri Munajjah Azhar. In addition, Yaniela Forgas will move pieces against Puteri Rifqah Azhar and Ineymig Hernandez against Sivanesan Nithyalakshmi.

Maritza Arribas, winner in the opening series, will now watch the duels without the tension of the game.

The new version of the Chess Olympiad was agreed to 11 rounds by the Swiss system and has a record number of participants in its two tournaments. A total of 194 teams will compete for the prizes in the open group and 188 in the women's competition.
