Lille (1) vs Real Madrid (0)
Paris, Oct 2 (PL) The French club Lille defeated the powerful Real Madrid 1-0 at home today in the second round of the Champions League, a surprising result.
The Dogues' fans turned the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in the northern city into a madhouse, where the reigning Champions League winners suffered their first defeat in nine months when Jonathan David scored from the penalty spot shortly before halftime.
The referee, Italian Maurizio Mariani, awarded the penalty for a handball in the area by Eduardo Camavinga, after consulting the VAR.
For Lille, it was their first three points in the tournament, having lost 2-0 to the Sporting in their opener.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, were left with three points, having beaten German side Stuttgart 3-1.
