Havana, Nov 19 (ACN) Cuban Luis Ernesto Quesada could not close with a win and said goodbye far from the prizes in the International and National Chess Tournament Revolution Cup 2024, led by Colombian Sebastian Felipe Sanchez.

The current champion of the Island faced his compatriot Roberto Alejandro Ramos in the farewell round and the duel ended in a draw, after 73 moves of a Pawn Queen opening and occupied the fifth place in the ranking.

Quesada started the tournament with two consecutive defeats and completed five points out of a possible nine, a performance that will cause him to lose 12.5 Elo units to his current coefficient of 2,580, the best of the 10 contestants in the main section.

In his passage through the tournament, he only won three games and negotiated four draws, which speaks of a performance below his potential.

Also with a draw concluded the leader Sanchez, who moved the black pieces in a Spanish opening and quickly simplified most of his forces against the Peruvian Kevin Cori -playing for Mexico- and with the draw rounded up 6.5 scores, unreachable for the rest of the candidates.

That result favored Cori, since the sum of 5.5 scores guaranteed him third place behind Spain's José Fernando Cuenca, whose final tie with the Cuban representing Mexico, Juan Carlos González, allowed him to reach six.

Things did not go as expected for Roberto Alejandro and Cuban Abel Fabián López, who were relegated to eighth and tenth place, respectively.

The former conceded three setbacks and barely won a game, to which he added five draws to compile 3.5 points. Abel Fabián's performance was much more discreet, as he conceded five losses and four draws, which earned him a meager two points.
