Erislandy Álvarez

Havana, Jan 13 (JIT) - Contrary to what was initially agreed, the semifinal of the Professional World Cup of the International Boxing Association (IBA) that will involve the Cuban Erislandy Alvarez (63.5 kg) will not be disputed next 18th.

The president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, Alberto Puig de la Barca, announced this, explaining that the organizers will soon announce the new date of that phase, scheduled for Beijing, based on eight-round duels.

Erislandy, Olympic champion and runner-up of the orb reached that stage after defeating Kazakhstan's Adilet Kurmetov 3-0 in six rounds in the quarterfinals, which marked the beginning of the new event, also in the Chinese capital.

Then, the Tajikistani Bakhodur Usmonov, who has a bronze medal, sealed his advance as the victim of the host Quan Wang and a fight was agreed that will put the Caribbean player in a chance to avenge the setback he suffered in the Olympic qualifier in Busto Arsizio, Italy.

The other fighters to fight for promotion to the final are Russia's Gabil Mamedov and Serbia's Pavel Fedorov, initial defeaters of Venezuela's Luis Arcon and French star Soufiane Oumiha, respectively.

The fight for the crown will go 10 rounds and is also subject to rescheduling.
