Cuba joins in celebration of World Tourism Day

Havana, September 27 (RHC)-- Cuban authorities are joining this Friday the celebration of World Tourism Day with strategies focused on the diversification of the proposals of the travel industry and the care of the environment.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism has voiced its commitment to sustain the transformations in recreation, through the protection of flora and fauna, and a variety of options that include cultural travel, congresses, nautical activities, nature and circuits.

Tourism in Cuba is growing and developing, betting on the use of new information technologies in the necessary process of digital transformations of the tourist destination, reports Prensa Latina news agency.

The island has more than 70 thousand hotel rooms in some 300 facilities distributed throughout the country, mostly ranging in the four and five stars’ modality.

Over the past six decades, tourism has experienced continued expansion and diversification, and it has become one of the fastest growing and most important economic sectors in the world, benefiting destinations and communities worldwide

The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) expects that tourism will continue to grow at an average of 3% annually until 2030.

The theme of this year’s  Day is  "Tourism and Jobs — A Better Future For All"

Tourism's role in job creation is often undervalued. This is despite the fact that tourism generates 10% of world jobs and is included in Sustainable Development Goal 8 for its potential to create decent work.
