Havana, November 26 (RHC)-- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday expressed his deepest condolences to the people of Cuba and President Raul Castro on the death of the Cuban Revolution's historic leader, Fidel Castro.
In a video message, the diplomat highlighted the progress of Cuba in education, literacy and health under the guidance of Fidel, who died Friday night at 90 years of age.
He also expressed his hopes that Cuba will continue to make progress on the path of transformation and prosperity, and recalled his meeting with the leader in January 2014 during his visit to Cuba. They addressed international issues, sustainable development and climate change, the Secretary-General said.
Ban reaffirmed in this moment of pain the readiness of the United Nations to continue working with the people of the island.
