Riyadh, May 20 (RHC)-- U.S. President Donald Trump has closed an arms deal with Saudi Arabia worth almost $110 billion, and extending up to $350 billion over 10 years.
The U.S. president arrived on Saturday in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, on the first stop of a nine-day international tour. Trump was received like visiting royalty, as his debut on the world stage competed for attention at home with ongoing news of scandals encircling his presidency.
In a series of official arrival ceremonies — at the airport and the Royal Court palace — Trump, his wife, Melania, and an entourage including virtually his entire senior White House staff and much of his Cabinet, were serenaded by military bands, treated to a flyover of Saudi jets, feted in opulent palaces and given the undivided attention of King Salman, the ruler of the ultra-conservative Muslim nation.
The military deal signed with the United States includes a $6 billion contract to assemble 150 Lockheed Martin Blackhawk helicopters in Saudi Arabia, and also includes a $1 billion THAAD missile system and contract for four multi-mission warships worth $11.5 billion, according to an unnamed official quoted in the media.
