Moscow, November 7 (RHC)-- Celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution got underway in Moscow Tuesday with the traditional military parade that represents the bravery of the Russian people.

On November 7, 1941 during World War II, when the front was just a few kilometers away from the city, Moscow hosted a military parade in honor of the 24th anniversary of the October Revolution.

According to a spokesperson for the organizers of today's march, it reconstructed the first parade to remind Russian citizens of the heroic pages of their history, and the courage and resilience of Moscow defenders who moved to the front immediately after the parade.

Some 5,000 people participated in the event, ranging from students to the military, and they were dressed in uniforms typical of the time when the Red Army was fighting the Nazis.

The next event to pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution will take place in the Alexander Garden, adjacent to the western wall of the Kremlin, with wreaths to be placed in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

For its part, in its twitter feed Russia Today TV Channel changed its handler to Revolution Time and tweeted live updates synchronized with the events in Petrograd in 1917. The events covered included Lenin´s first public speech in the Smolny, revolutionary troops surrounding the Winter Palace and several pictures of the time, including one of sailors of Russian Cruiser Aurora.

The October Revolution, a key event in world history, was led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. It demonstrated that peasants, workers and the poor of Russia could get rid of 300 years of czarist oppression and despotism, and put an end to the power of the bourgeoisie and landowners.
