United Nations, Feb 24 (RHC)-- UNICEF’s Deputy Director, Justin Forsyth, has resigned after accusations of his inappropriate behavior while leading the Save the Children organization resurfaced recently. Forsyth, however, released a statement saying he was not resigning because of past “mistakes” at Save the Children, but rather to protect the aid organizations.
Earlier this week, Save the Children confirmed that while he led the charity, concerns about his behavior were raised twice, in 2011 and 2015, by three women. The women complained of inappropriate behavior, including sending inappropriate text messages and commenting on the appearance of female workers.
UNICEF told CNN that it had previously not known about “past complaints” against Forsyth, but welcomed his decision "to come forward and acknowledge past mistakes." The situation has arisen while British charity Oxfam has been the subject of outrage, after dozens of accusations have surfaced of their aid workers sexually abusing people in countries they were supposed to be helping.
