Lima, March 23 (RHC)-- The next president of Peru, Martin Vizcarra, was sworn in by Congress on Friday in a plenary session.
Vizcarra arrived last night to Lima from Canada, where he previously served as ambassador.
At the airport, Vizcarra was greeted by a boisterous group of supporters, with music and Peruvian flags, posters, flowers and even a birthday cake. He celebrated his 55th birthday yesterday.
Vizcarra assumes the presidency of Peru to complete the mandate of Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, until July 28, 2021, although important sectors of the Peruvian society are calling for general elections.
Before Martín Vizcarra assumes the position, the legislative plenary had to approve the resolution that accepted Kuczynski´s resignation whose terms were prepared by a commission after a 5-hour debate
