Washington, April 11 (RHC)-- White House Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert has announced his departure from the White House, hitting President Donald Trump's administration with a fresh resignation. 

"The president is grateful for Tom's commitment to the safety and security of our great country," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement on Tuesday.  “Tom led the White House's efforts to protect the homeland from terrorist threats, strengthen our cyber defenses, and respond to an unprecedented series of natural disasters.  President Trump thanks him for his patriotic service and wishes him well," Sanders added. 

Bossert, a favorite of Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, is leaving one day after national security adviser John Bolton began the job.  Bossert was believed to be on shaky footing in the Bolton era and he resigned two days after Michael Anton, the National Security Council spokesman, also quit. 

According to two people familiar with the situation who requested anonymity to discuss internal personnel issues, Bossert's resignation was demanded by Bolton.
