Caracas, April 7 (RHC-PL), -- A mission of foreign ministers of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is back in Venezuela for peace talks aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in the South American country.
Speaking with reporters, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua said that the seven foreign ministers making up the UNASUR mission began to arrive in Caracas Sunday to act as facilitators in a poprosed peace dialogue between the Venezuelan government and the opposition.
"Our objective is to achieve an open, frank dialogue among all sectors of Venezuelan society, so that they work together toward finding solutions to their problems,” said Argentine Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, after a meeting with his Chilean counterpart Heraldo Muñoz.
The UNASUR mission visited Caracas for the first time in late March and met separately with President Maduro and representatives of the opposition to try to stem the wave of violence that shook the South American nation.
Sending a UNASUR mission to Venezuela was agreed upon on March 12th in Santiago de Chile, in the framework of the inauguration of President Michelle Bachelet.
UNASUR is comprised of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.
