Caracas, April 8 (RHC) The foreign ministers of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) are mediating on Tuesday during talks between the Venezuelan government and representatives of the opposition in an effort to find a peaceful solution to the fascist violence unleashed in the South American nation by the rightist circles since February 12.
According to Telesur TV, President Nicolas Maduro received on Monday the foreign ministers and reminded them that he has been inviting the opposition to a dialog over the past eight weeks in favor of peace, but opposition leaders have rejected the invitation as they continue to back violent actions on the streets.
Maduro stressed UNASUR’ s role in addressing political conflicts and in reaching stabilization in South American countries, and its support of Venezuela to consolidate dialog and peace.
Opposition Unity Table members also met with the foreign ministers and although and although they initially accepted to sit at the bargaining table, they insist in conditioning their meeting with Maduro, even when the president has always expressed his willingness to talk.
Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, who leads the rightist bloc, demanded four points which include equal grounds at the talks, an agenda of common interests, national radio and TV broadcast and another one to be agreed to with the government.
In this regards, Maduro said that the opposition finds no other alternatives than sitting at the bargaining table to put an end to violence. He said the dialog will send an important signal of peace and democracy to the Venezuelan people in favor of tolerance, democracy, debate of ideas, respect to the adversaries and the construction of a peaceful coexistence model.
The UNASUR mission includes the foreign ministers of Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, Colombia, Suriname and Venezuela, who are calling for the end of violence in the country.
