Washington, April 14, (RHC), -- The deep suffering caused by US policy at international level has made the world perceive the United States as the top warmonger, said former President Jimmy Carter.
In statements to the Salon newspaper related to the publication of his book A Call to Action, Carter said that the international community interprets US foreign policy as a militaristic and aggressive line.
The former US president said that the rest of the world nearly unanimously sees the United States as the number one warmonger. Washington goes to armed conflicts in a blink and very often these conflicts are wished not only by US politicians but also supported by the US people, he noted.
Carter said that Washington hardly every admits the loss and suffering caused by the so-called duty to take the great democracy to the rest of the world and he was critical of the drone attacks, which have taken many innocent lives, considered as collateral damage.
He said that the United States has given a step backwards to punish the American people instead of help them incorporate to life as he noted that there are 7.5 times more inmates in US jails than in 1982, when he concluded his presidential mandate.
Carter said that the United States is the only NATO country applying the death penalty; the only country in the hemisphere applying that penalty, which is the other pest affecting the nation as to unjustified, unnecessary and counterproductive violence.
