Caracas, April 15 (RHC) -- A delegation of Foreign Ministers of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is arriving in Caracas on Tuesday to participate in the second round of peace talks between the government of President Nicolas Maduro and the right-wing opposition. It is the third visit by representatives from that international body amidst the ongoing political crisis in Venezuela.

The first round of talks between government representatives and opposition leaders started on Thursday and is intended to stem two months of anti-government protests, which has left 40 dead and millions in damage to public property.

The more radical wing of the opposition, which is seeking Maduro’s removal through the violent protests, was absent.

The foreign ministers of Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador joined the talks with the opposition’s Democratic Unity Round Table alliance (MUD) including Secretary Ramón Guillermo Aveledo and Governor Henrique Capriles, who lost to Maduro last year. Vatican representative Aldo Giordano is also taking part in the dialogue.
The UNASUR commission is composed of Brazil’s foreign minister, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo and his counterparts, María Angélica Holguín from Colombia, and Patiño from Ecuador.
