Referendum to decide future of constitution begins in Chile.
Santiago de Chile, October 25 (RHC)-- Polling stations in Chile are open this Sunday for citizens to decide in a national plebiscite whether they want a reform of the current Constitution, adopted in 1980 during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
Voters will have to answer two questions: "Do you want a new constitution?" and "What kind of body should write the new constitution?@
The first question must be answered in the affirmative or negative, while the second question citizens must choose whether they prefer that the drafting of the new text be done by the Joint Constitutional Convention or by the Constitutional Convention.
The first of the two bodies is made up of popularly elected members and parliamentarians, while the second is made up entirely of popularly elected deputies.
