Venezuelans go to the polls to elect new parliament  

Caracas, December 6 (RHC)-- Venezuelans are voting this Sunday to elect the 277 deputies of the new National Assembly, which will take office next January 5th, for the period 2021-2026.

More than 20,700,000 voters are called to participate in the legislative elections, a process marked by the nomination of 14,480 candidates representing more than hundred organizations with political aims of diverse ideological tendencies.

The President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Indira Alfonzo, reported the installation of 100 percent of the voting machines in the 29,622 electoral tables distributed throughout the country.

Alfonzo highlighted the timely deployment of all the logistic and technological infrastructure in the 14 thousand 221 centers activated for the vote in a total of 87 electoral districts nationwide.

The head of the highest electoral body emphasized the implementation of strict biosecurity protocols to guarantee the protection of the health of the voters in view of the risk of contagion by the COVID-19 pandemic, of which 104,177 cases and 916 deaths have been reported to date in Venezuela.

Likewise, the President of the CNE thanked the broad deployment of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) in the Plan República to guarantee the security of electoral material, personnel and facilities, as well as the peace and tranquility of the citizens during the development of the democratic exercise.
