Caracas, February 6 (RHC)-- The President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, reported at a press conference in Caracas that the suspected assassin of the National Assembly was hired from Colombia, by an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

"Grillet Álvarez was recruited by a CIA agent in Colombia," the highest representative of the legislative headquarters specified in a press conference.  He also added that "once again the government of Colombia, once again Iván Duque, in his murderous zeal against Venezuela," are involved in terrorist acts against Venezuela.

In his recorded testimony, Grillet Alvarez explained that he was contacted by telephone from Colombia by Mariano José Ugarte Morillo.  This relationship was confirmed days before by the Attorney General of the Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, when he informed of the indictment of the former parliamentary worker by the Attorney General's Office.

Jorge Rodríguez said: "Duque is a cowardly person by nature, but he is terrified of the Bolivarian Air Force and that is the reason for his insistence on attacking Venezuela's defensive arsenal and the Armed Forces," the Venezuelan official stressed.

"Grillet Álvarez had committed himself to carry out actions of sabotage, terrorism, theft of classified information; as well as to facilitate access of extremist groups to the installations of the National Assembly", said Tarek William Saab when the Venezuelan citizen implicated in the events at the National Assembly was charged.
