CNE of Honduras announces official winners of primary elections

Tegucigalpa, April 15 (RHC)-- During a press conference in Tegucigalpa, members of the Honduran National Electoral Council (CNE) announced that Xiomara Castro gained enough votes to be the presidential candidate of the Libre Party in the elections scheduled for November 28th.

According to the report of the electoral body, Castro de Zelaya -- wife of ousted president Manuel Zelaya -- obtained 404,238 votes, equivalent to 79.08 percent of the votes of her political party.

In a message published in its Twitter account, the Libre Party highlighted that Castro "is officially the most voted candidate of the opposition.  Together with the Honduran people, we are going to accompany her to the presidency.  We are going for the unity of all sectors.  We are going for victory."

The CNE indicated that the candidate representing the Liberal Party is Yani Rosenthal, who received 339,001 votes, 49.97 percent, of the vote of his political group.

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate for the ruling National Party will be Nasry Asfura, who received 681,701 votes, 70.12 percent of his party's vote.
