Buenos Aires, June 30 (RHC)-- The Puebla Group (el Grupo de Puebla), an alliance founded by political personalities from 17 countries, has strongly rejected the pretension of handing over the verification of the Peruvian elections to the Secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro.

In a message disseminated on its Twitter account, the progressive group repudiated the intentions of Fujimorism (represented at the polls by Keiko Fujimori), who now seeks an intervention of the OAS in the final results of the elections, which gave the victory to Pedro Castillo.

Keiko Fujimori delivered a letter to the Government Palace on Monday, addressed to the President of Peru, Francisco Sagasti, in which she requests that he ask for a controversial international audit of the electoral ballot.

The head of the Popular Force (FP) party, who maintains that her objective is to "know the truth" about the June 6th ballot, did not succeed in receiving the president to explain her request, as she wanted, and had to limit herself to leave the letter in the reception of the presidential headquarters.

This same week, the right-wing Lourdes Flores, former leader of the Christian Popular Party, requested an OAS audit of the presidential ballot, "as was done in Bolivia" -- where a similar intervention led to a coup d'état against Evo Morales.

In recent days, several members of the Grupo de Puebla, among them seven former presidents, expressed their concern for the political situation in Peru and called for the defense of the democratic institutionality in that sister country.

In a statement, they pointed out that there is convincing evidence that the newly elected President Castillo obtained a majority in the elections carried out in accordance with the guarantees and norms of transparency and electoral competition.
