More than 1.5 million doses distributed to continue vaccination in Argentina

Buenos Aires, August 7 (RHC)-- The Ministry of Health of Argentina reports that it began the distribution of 1,514,940 doses of the Moderna vaccine as second doses in the schemes initiated with the Russian drug Sputnik V to advance the immunization scheme.

The implementation of the combination of vaccines is optional and is framed according to the Strategic Vaccination Plan of each jurisdiction. The health institution granted the number of doses according to the population of each district, he indicated.

The province of Buenos Aires will receive 585,200 doses; followed by the City of Buenos Aires with 101,360; Catamarca 14,000; Chaco 40,320; Chubut 20,720; Córdoba 125,580; Corrientes 37,520; Entre Ríos 46,480; Formosa 20,160; Jujuy 25,760 and La Pampa 12,320.

The Ministry said that 13,440 vaccines will be delivered to La Rioja 13,440; to Mendoza 66,080; to Misiones 42,000; to Neuquén 22,400; to Río Negro 25,200; to Salta 47,600; to San Juan 26,320; to San Luis 17,360; to Santa Cruz 12,320; to Santa Fe 117,600; to Santiago del Estero 32,480; to Tierra del Fuego 6,160 and to Tucumán 56,560.

Health Minister Carla Vizzotti announced on Wednesday that the scheme will be completed optionally with one of the following combinations: Sputnik V (component 1) and AstraZeneca; Sputnik V (component 1) and Moderna, and AstraZeneca and Moderna.

Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, head of the Buenos Aires Government, stressed that "the combination of vaccines is safe" and added that, according to the studies carried out, both AstraZeneca and Moderna "are perfectly combinable with Sputnik V".

Argentina reported 13,786 new Covid-19 positives for a total of 4,989,402 people affected, while 276 citizens died and the number of deaths increased to 107,023 since the beginning of the pandemic.
