Caracas, August 8 (RHC)-- The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) on Sunday is holding primary elections to elect its candidates for the regional and municipal elections scheduled for next November 21st.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro highlighted that the primary process will lay the foundations for the emergence of new political leaderships in the South American country.
Maduro invited PSUV militancy and Venezuelans registered in the voter roll, regardless of their party affiliation to go to the polls to elect PSUV candidates.

"Let's go vote.  The party of our Commander (Hugo) Chávez opens the doors of participation for everyone; Open Primary Elections, now it's up to you, to vote for the future, towards the victory of November 21st", said the first vice president of the PSUV, Diosdado Cabello.

For this day, the National Electoral Council (CNE) set up 5,108 polling stations throughout the country so that citizens interested in participating in the primaries may do so with the utmost normality.

More than 100,000 pre-candidates (57,003 women/ 43,972 men), presented themselves for the primary process in which the candidates for the regional and local elections of next November will be chosen.
