Santiago de Chile, August 21 (RHC)-- In Chile, the coalition formed by six social democratic parties known as Unidad Constituyente will hold this Saturday a popular consultation to define its candidate for the presidential elections scheduled for next November.

The conglomerate of center parties is formed by the Socialist Party (PS), Party for Democracy (PPD), Radical Party (PR), Christian Democracy (DC), Progressive Party (PRO), Citizens, Liberal Party (PL) and New Deal (NT).

In the Constituent Unity consultation, the president of the Senate, Yasna Provoste, for DC, Paula Narváez, proposed by the PS and Carlos Maldonado of the PR will face each other.

The organizing committee of the consultation indicated that more than 300 polling places have been set up throughout the country, which will be open from 09:00 to 17:00, local time.  The first results are expected to be known around 19:00.

All members of the Constituent Unity's member forces may participate in the voting day, as well as citizens without militancy.  Due to the fact that the electoral process could not be registered before the Chilean Electoral Service (Servel), it presents some differences with respect to the primaries held in July by Chile Vamos and Apruebo Dignidad, in which Sebastián Sichel and Gabriel Boric won.

The forces of the Unidad Constituyente coalition were part of the so-called Concertación which, after Augusto Pinochet's departure from power in 1990, alternated with the right wing in the Chilean government, so that for a considerable part of the population a candidate with this sign could be 'more of the same.'
