Lima, August 27 (RHC)-- The Peruvian Congress granted this Friday the vote of confidence to the Executive Cabinet of President Pedro Castillo, presented by Prime Minister Guido Bellido Ugarte, after a wide-ranging debate of the legislators.

The new cabinet of ministers was approved with 73 votes in favor, 50 against and no abstentions. According to Peruvian law, Castillo's government required half plus one of the total number of parliamentarians, that is, 66 of the 130 legislators.

In addition, this vote of confidence by the Peruvian Congress must take place 30 days after his appointment, according to the Peruvian Constitution.

A press release from the Congress of Peru refers that "previously the holder of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers exposed the general policy of the Government and the main measures required by its management and requested the question of confidence of the National Representation."

After the decision of the legislators, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers published on its Twitter social network account a message to thank the vote of confidence.  "We salute the Congress for helping us to promote the progress, justice and equity that the country demands, even more so, in times of pandemic," he said.

Bellido responded to the questions made by the parliamentarians together with the ministers of the Economy, Health, Education, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Trade portfolios.
