Mexico City, September 17 (RHC)-- The Sixth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), to be held in Mexico City this Saturday, will be the meeting space for regional leaders four years after the meeting they held in the Dominican Republic in 2017.

With the attendance of 16 presidents, two vice presidents, prime ministers and foreign ministers, this conclave will hold as its central theme the strengthening of the regional mechanism to replace the Organization of American States (OAS).

On Thursday, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, arrived in Mexico to participate in the ceremony marking the 211th anniversary of the Mexican independence struggle.   Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pu and Chile's Deputy Minister of International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yañez, were also received by Mexican authorities.

The 16 Latin American Presidents who will participate in the CELAC Summit that begins tomorrow in Mexico are already arriving and that will have among the topics to be discussed the replacement of the OAS by an organization "that is not a lackey of anyone" as proposed by Mexico.

CELAC will also address the blockade of Cuba, the situation of the Malvinas Islands, COP-26 and indigenous languages and peoples, among other topics.

The meeting will focus on the joint confrontation of the COVID-19 pandemic through the production and development of medicines and vaccines, the confrontation oCELAC leaders prepare to meet after four yearsdisaster fund for this purpose.
