Bogota, October 24 (RHC)-- Colombian authorities have captured Dairo Antonio Usuga, alias "Otoniel," the most wanted drug trafficker in the South American country.   Colombian military forces presented Usuga to the media handcuffed and wearing rubber boots like those used by farmers in rural areas.

Usuga David is considered to be the head of the Gulf Clan network, which ships tons of cocaine to Central America and the United States through the Uraba region.

There are also more than 120 open cases against "Otoniel" for all types of crimes and a red notice issued by Interpol for multiple aggravated homicide, multiple aggravated kidnapping, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The U.S. government was offering a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his location and capture.

According to initial information, Otoniel, who is also listed as one of the country's most wanted drug traffickers, was arrested in the El Totumo district of Necocli, far from a jungle area.

For his part, opposition senator Iván Cepeda wrote on the subject: "I hope that the capture of alias 'Otoniel' will soon lead to a process of submission to justice and demobilization of the thousands of members of the Clan del Golfo, which is a powerful illegal armed organization".

In his Twitter account, Cepeda added: "Alias Otoniel, who has participated in multiple armed groups and in different armed conflicts in the country, knows well the links of his paramilitary organizations, high military commanders and politicians of the extreme right.  Will they silence him?"
