Managua, November 19 (RHC)-- The Foreign Minister of Nicaragua, Denis Moncada, announced this Friday the decision of his country to withdraw from the Organization of American States (OAS) and, in this sense, denounced the OAS Charter.

"We communicate to you, to the people of Nicaragua and to the international community that today Friday, November 19 at 8 a.m. we sent to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, a denunciation of the Charter of the Organization of American States -- OAS," said Denis Moncada.

"We are resigning and disassociating ourselves from that organization," stated the Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs.  Moncada read out the communication sent to the secretary of the organization, Luis Almagro, where the reasons why the Central American state breaks its ties with the regional body are set out.

In this sense, he mentioned the declaration of the National Assembly before the interference of the organization last November 16, the agreement of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Supreme Electoral Council last November 18, where the Nicaraguan Executive was urged to denounce the OAS Charter.

The top Nicaraguan diplomat officially notified the "indeclinable decision to denounce the Charter of the Organization of American States (OAS), in accordance with its Article 143 which initiates the definitive withdrawal and resignation of Nicaragua from this organization."
