Brussels, January 29 (RHC)-- The former president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, said Friday that the security crisis in his country is the result of the actions of the authorities who destroyed the institutionality established during his administration.

During an interview in the program En Clave Política, broadcast by teleSUR, the former president said that "the insecurity situation in Ecuador is due to the fact that they dismantled everything out of hatred for Correa (...) The problem is multidimensional."

The former head of state recalled that, in his government, they had a Ministry to coordinate the security issue, "because the fight against insecurity is comprehensive."  In #Ecuador they destroyed everything with neoliberalism, they put an end to institutionality, strategy, integral vision, planning.

"We even had schools and universities in prisons, prisoners were concerned about studying, not killing each other.  All of that was dismantled out of hatred for Correa.  They destroyed the Ministry of Justice, in charge of social rehabilitation; they destroyed the Ministry of the Interior, in charge of citizen security," he said.

Correa indicated that one of the factors influencing this reality is the quality of governors they have.  "The lack of effectiveness and efficiency, dynamism, conviction and commitment. The quality of officials is terrible (...) With that level of efficiency and effectiveness, we are not going to win the fight against insecurity," he said.

"Another factor is the economic crisis, where the cost falls on the poorest, there is unemployment and growing inequality, and all this fosters insecurity.  There are other factors, it is a multidimensional problem," he ratified.

Likewise, he warned that the Government distributed the prisons "as political booty" and indicated that there is a high degree of corruption, so that "even a war tank can pass if they pay enough to put them in prison. Is that how they are going to control security in prisons?"  "Security is not only a matter of public force, but of human development," he said.

The former Ecuadorian president said that all the progress achieved, plans and strategies implemented during his administration in terms of security were destroyed "because that is neoliberalism."  We have been underdeveloped for 200 years, to get our countries out of underdevelopment you have to be willing to risk your life, you must have a sense of vision, have prepared yourself.

He also lamented the manipulation of some media outlets on sectors of the population. "In Ecuador there is a struggle of visions, today they complain about neoliberalism and do not understand that this is why they voted in April, manipulated by the press."

"Realistically, I do not see a solution with the model that currently prevails in Ecuador", said former President Rafael Correa.
