Lima, July 15 (Andina-RHC) -- Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have vowed to further strengthen bilateral ties and step up co-operation in key sectors of their country's economy and education sector.

Speaking at a media conference with President Humala following the Fifth Petersburg Climate Dialogue in Berlin Monday, Merkel stressed that Germany was ready to co-operate closely with Peru in the development of technologies and industries, as well as in the field of scientific research and scholarships.

After Monday's meeting with the Peruvian leader, Merkel highlighted that the two countries’ bilateral relationship concerning these issues "are very intense and in excellent shape".

In a joint statement released after the talks, Humala noted that Germany was one of the Andean nation’s largest partners within the scope of the European Union (EU) thanks to the good level of mutual relations.

The two leaders expressed their confidence that the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which is set to be held in the Peruvian capital, Lima, will result in key agreements on climate change.
